Mycelight

The Mycelium Light project investigates the evolving frontier of material innovation, with a focus on bio-materials and circular design principles. At its core, the piece employs mycelium, the root structure of fungi, selected for its biodegradable, renewable, and naturally textural qualities. Grown within a custom-designed mold, the mycelium gradually forms into a lightweight yet robust structure, resulting in a tactile, organic presence. To maintain a close alignment with sustainable practice, the design pairs the mycelium shade with reclaimed Tasmanian Oak, chosen for its warmth, durability, and ability to harmonise with the material’s natural palette. Together, these elements celebrate the potential of bio-fabrication, demonstrating how regenerative materials and reclaimed resources can be transformed into functional, enduring, and visually compelling objects that tread lightly on the planet.
